Queen of Sweden is an English shrub rose with soft apricot-pink flowers that become light pink as they mature. The fully double blooms open in a cupped to shallow-cupped form and often appear in small clusters, accompanied by a myrrh fragrance. Its bushy, upright growth gives the plant a neat vertical presence without an excessively broad spread. It can bring softly coloured flowers to a mixed border or form part of a low flowering hedge, with blooms also suitable for cutting.

Growing in Australia

Queen of Sweden may reach approximately 1.2–1.5 m tall and 0.8–1.0 m wide, giving it useful height while retaining a relatively upright outline. In Australian gardens, choose a position with full sun to partial shade and prepare fertile soil that holds moisture without becoming waterlogged. The rose is deciduous and produces flowers in flushes through the growing season. Its exact flowering timing, mature size and fragrance intensity may vary with local climate, soil conditions and care. Allow enough space for air movement and for the plant to develop its naturally bushy form.

Care tips

For general shrub rose care, check soil moisture regularly and water deeply when needed, directing water towards the root zone. Apply mulch over the surrounding soil to help retain moisture, while keeping it clear of the stems. A suitable rose fertiliser can be applied during active growth according to its label directions. During the dormant season, remove dead, damaged or crowded growth and shape the plant as required. These are general rose-care guidelines rather than verified cultivar-specific requirements.

Best uses

  • Mixed borders
  • Low flowering hedges
  • Cut flowers
